Understanding Bud Dajo

To understand Bud Dajo, one must first know how it all started.  And it all started when a Filipino Moro named Pala ran amok in British Borneo (in short, he did unpleasant things to a lot of people with his heavy-bladed Barong).

To avoid being hanged and quartered by the British, he fled to his relatives in Jolo.

So in today's terms, this is roughly the equivalent of Abu Sabaya and his ASG Clowns murdering Malaysians in Sabah, then fleeing to Basilan to avoid prosecution.

Probably at the request of the British, the American Military Government in Jolo tried to arrest Pala. Unfortunately, he managed to escape and eventually found his way to Bud Dajo, together with his relatives and followers.

Again, in today's terms, this is roughly the equivalent of Abu Sabaya and his ASG Clowns establishing their own fortress in the jungles of Basilan after committing crimes in Malaysia.

It appears, therefore, that Pala was merely a wanted mass murderer who cynically used his community as cannon fodder against American military might to prevent his arrest.

Does that represent a heroic stand against American Imperialism to you?
